Over 100 years of powered flight in Canada began with the work of the Aerial Experiment Association, four young men - Glenn Curtis, Casey Baldwin, Lt. Thomas Selfridge and J.A. Douglas McCurdy who with Alexander Graham Bell achieved the flight of the Silver Dart from the ice of the Baddeck Bay, February 23, 1909. The story is told here by Historian Judith Tulloch, from the A.G. Bell kites through gliders to the first controlled manned flight in Canada. In celebration of the one hundredth anniversary, the replica of the Silver Dart flew in Baddeck in February 2009. That Silver Dart is now on permanent display at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site.
