About Alexander Graham Bell’s Notes

Throughout his life, Alexander Graham Bell was a dedicated notemaker. Using notebooks to record his experiments while developing the telephone, Bell found the process of recording steps in his scientific and inventive process to be very helpful. He used notebooks of all sizes, including pocket sized books, that he had with him at all times. He also encouraged his staff to make notes of their work. Systems of organized notes for major project areas were kept by his secretary and later published in bound volumes to record the events at the Bell Laboratory on his estate. Samples are on display at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
